ABC-HOUSE WORKSHOPS FOR ADULTS 12/2024 – 05/2025
During the workshop for adults, you will each time explore a particular aspect from the ABC ateliers and the library. Accompanied by an experienced guide, you will try out different activities and get a lot of inspiration to continue working at home or in the classroom.
You can register for the whole series or per theme workshop.
10/12/2024 Barbotine
Every month ABC organizes a workshop Barbotine for children between 2 and 4 and their parents, but this session is aimed exclusively at an adult audience.
‘Barbotine’ is the French word for the liquid mixture of clay and water that ceramists use to attach different particles of clay together. We will get to work with hands, feet and all kinds of tools to discover and experience this material: wet, dry, hot, cold, in powder or as a liquid substance, grating, kneading, crumbling and sifting, sorting, stacking, mixing, feeling, sliding and slipping….
After the session there will be room for questions and to exchange pedagogical ideas.
Comfortable clothes that can get dirty and a set of clean clothes are recommended.
25/02/2025 Kamishibai and creative storytelling (in Dutch only)
Tangram, string figures, playing with hands and light, reproductions, origami folds, collages, story dice, finger puppets … these are just some of the possibilities to playfully create your own story, tell it and then let it live its own life.
You will explore the Kamishibai and picture book collection and be introduced to miriorama, Lubok and other storytelling techniques from around the world. We pay special attention to silent books, because images often say more than words.
This workshop is in Dutch.
In collaboration with the CLJB, we are organizing a two-day kamishibai course in French.
25/03/2025 Weaving
The basic technique of weaving is simple, a back and forth movement of threads, row by row. But there are countless ways to process fibers such as cotton, silk or wool into textiles: on a loom or completely without, standing, sitting, using weights, operated with hands or toes….
A rug with bright stripes or a nettle teepee, the Pikler ball, a plant fence, bracelet, basket, the seat of a chair, weaving stories, darning socks or analyzing weaving patterns from the Bauhaus period.
These and other inspiring ideas for getting started with weaving at home or school will be covered in this session.
29/04/2025 Architecture / outdoors
Starting with a walk around the ABC house, we will look at, listen to and experience the surroundings.
Once back in the ABC House we will work with a range of graphic techniques to create a visual record of our trip.
A subjective and poetic reading of architecture.
27/05/2025 Ink
For centuries, people have used ink to write and draw. Think of the ancient Egyptians, medieval monks or school desks that provided a compartment for a jar of ink.
But how do the contents of such a jar actually come about? How are the different colors manufactured and preserved?
In this workshop we will try it out for ourselves!
We discover which plants and objects give off colorful substances, how to make them storable and how to use them for drawing and calligraphy.
